Sketching for Haiti
I’m in the early stage of figuring out a drawing based on images from a video made by my medical doctor and convert to the Catholic Church friend Russ which he has put to the music he wrote in response to one of his most recent trips to Port-au-Prince Haiti. What I’d like to do is offer the art for bid on ebay and at least 75% of the funds raised with go to the CHALICE which is a Catholic sponsorship and development organization working to alleviate the effects of poverty in the developing world. They are raising funds now for Haiti. I will send a quality print to Russ. Or, I might do it the other way around – the print to the winning bidder and the original to Russ who has given so much to these souls for many years.
If you think this sounds like a good idea and would be interested in bidding or at least spreading the word through your social networks, please comment. Here’s the video link to the beautiful music, “Jewel of the Caribbean” written and performed by Russ.

Re: [Phil]? click here and read comment #6 – Who knew Phil would provide so much fun? And he’s not around to enjoy it (or is he?).

Re: [Phil]? click here and read comment #6
Now, earlier today I had planned on writing this sort of philosophical piece to go along with my drawing explaining what I’ve been thinking about the comic and about a possible resurgence of my written blog, the one that had the really cool name and how it seemed like that name would be an awesome name for a classic panel comic strip and how that idea seemed to conflict with using the name for the written blog and if you can belief it I’ve actually lost sleep over over thinking this, for petesake.
But by the time I finished reformatting the blog itself (would love to hear what you think of this) and uploading the post archive (during which somehow several comments from earlier posts went AWOL) and gunk like that, well, I arrived at this moment only to find I am pooped, eye weary, fried. So, I’m going to skip presenting those thoughts and just head for bed with my notebook and the most interesting bio on Charles Schulz and Peanuts. {thrive}

2009-12-18 Dialogue Contest

OK, it’s your turn. To enter the contest please suggest some comic dialogue that’s going on between Marty, the guy on our left (unless you happen to be standing on your head) and me, the guy on our right who is waving his arms.
Place your entries in the combox (here – not on Plurk or elsewhere).
Format – something like this:
Marty:
O:
Marty:
O:
It does not matter who you make speak first or last or how much or how little you make either of them say.
Judges: My family members will choose a winner.
Contest Closes on Dec 24.
Winner to be announced during the first week of January – oh the pain of waiting, I know.
Prize: An original drawing by me.
Make sure you provide a real e-mail because that’s how I will get in touch with the winner for a snail mail addy so I can send the drawing.
You may enter as often as you like by creating a new comment. Have fun. Spread the word.
P.S. If you don’t do ‘dialogue’ but would like to create a single caption, that counts too. Hey, this isn’t Purgatory or anything, just having fun here.

After the famous portrait by Van Gogh of Dr. Gachet. Back to some “regular” comic drawings soon, maybe even tomorrow. But hey, check out the good doctor’s head gear.
2009-12-16 Sandal scandal

It’s been a day. I have pulled this out of my sketchbook archives. I apologize for this bit of a cheat and hope that those of you in cold climates (it’s -7C as I type) will appreciate this scene from a warmer day this past summer.

2009-12-14 A Year Ago Now

It began on the second Sunday of October, Canadian Thanksgiving, and didn’t end until March this year. Pain. Pain like I’d never felt in my life. Suffering comes to us all, it’s how we choose to deal with it that forms us. I honestly wondered then if I would be here a year from then. Here I am. Thanks be to God.
